Lucknow: The Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has directed that bus drivers should be deployed on routes only after proper training. The instructions were issued during a weekly review meeting chaired by Managing Director Prabhu N Singh through video conferencing on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by Regional Managers, Service Managers and Assistant Regional Managers from 20 regions across the state. During the review, the Managing Director assessed various operational issues point by point. He sought details of crew duty allocation through the Sugam App and instructed that duty rosters for all drivers and conductors must be generated strictly through the software to ensure transparency. He warned that strict action would be taken in case of any complaint or deviation.
Reviewing operational performance up to February 2, the Managing Director analysed bus utilisation, load factor, daily income per bus and fuel efficiency. Regions and depots showing the maximum decline compared to the corresponding period last year were alerted and directed to take corrective measures. All regions were instructed to achieve 100 per cent of their revenue targets. Regional and Service Managers were also directed to visit poorly performing depots on separate days to improve outcomes.

The meeting also reviewed bus accidents reported across the state. Stressing strict compliance with road safety norms, the Managing Director said the Chief Minister and the Transport Minister have set a clear target to reduce road accident fatalities by up to 50 per cent. He directed regional and assistant regional managers to conduct field inspections and regular checks.
Emphasising safety, he said that in view of recent accidents involving corporation buses, clear instructions have been issued from headquarters that no driver should be allowed to operate a bus without proper training. Traffic inspectors were directed to conduct daily checks of buses on high-density routes to boost revenue. The Managing Director also warned that any complaint related to corruption or misconduct would invite strict action.
